Corvette vs Golf

The new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has challenged the old Volkswagen Golf GTI hatchback. The American team Hoonigan, which in addition to preparing cars for racing, also runs its own blog, presented a new episode of its project This vs. That. In the new straight race, bloggers tested the modern mid-engine supercar Corvette Z06, which was rivaled by the classic Volkswagen Golf GTI hatchback of the Mk2 generation, quite seriously modified to compete on an equal footing with full-fledged Chevrolet supercars.

The 2023 mid-engine Corvette Z06 is equipped with a 670-horsepower naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The rear-wheel drive coupe weighs just over 1,600 kilograms.

The 1992 German hatchback is lighter – about 1,250 kilograms – and yet almost as powerful as its American competitor. Under the hood of the Golf GTI Mk2 is a 600-horsepower 2.8-liter V6 turbo engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive.
