Hybrids have come a long way since the early days of the original Prius and Insight, having rapidly become mainstream as the tech has improved.
Now a range of manufacturers offer their small crossover SUVs as hybrids for a reasonable upcharge, granting these upright vehicles the gas mileage of slower and sleeker machinery. If gas mileage in the high 30s or mid 40s isn’t enough for you, many of the same automakers building hybrid SUVs also offer the same vehicles as plug-in hybrids, which can drive solely on electric power for short periods.
