The new Volkswagen Tavendor is destined for the Chinese market.
At the Chengdu Motor Show, the premiere of another Volkswagen crossover with the letter T took place – a large Tavendor SUV oriented to the Chinese market. The novelty is an analogue of a shortened version of the Teramont X with an original design, but if the Teramont X is produced at the facilities of the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture, then the Tavendor will be produced at the FAW-Volkswagen plant. The Tavendor is larger than the Touareg, and the model is based on the MQB front-wheel drive architecture with a transverse engine.
It is known that the Tavendor will be exclusively five-seater, but already at the start of sales they will offer the R-Line version, which is distinguished by a sporty decor. In the cabin – a pair of screens in a single housing, an abundance of touch keys and a miniature gear selector on the central tunnel.
In technical terms, Tavendor repeats Teramont for the Chinese market. The base engine is a two-liter “turbo four” with a capacity of 186 horsepower, front-wheel drive. An alternative is the same engine, but forced up to 220 forces, and such a crossover is already equipped with all-wheel drive.
In both cases, the unit is paired with a DSG “robot” with two clutches. It is expected that later a more powerful modification will appear with a 2.5-liter VR6 turbo engine with 299 forces, which is already familiar from Talagon and Teramont.
If we talk about dimensions, then the Tavendor and Teramont have the same distance between the axles, which is 2.98 meters, while the length of the novelty exceeds 4.9 meters – for comparison, the length of the Touareg is 4.87 meters.
The start of sales of new items is scheduled for the end of 2022. Volkswagen explained that the name of the model is made up of two Greek words, “tavros” (“calf”) and “esplendor” (“magnificence”).
